Northern Ireland has the UK's cheapest petrol, 6.4p a litre below the average
Official Fuel Finder data puts Northern Ireland well ahead of every other region, with the South East the dearest place to fill up.
Drivers in Northern Ireland pay less for petrol than anywhere else in the UK, according to the prices forecourts are required to report to the government.
Unleaded averaged 167.8p a litre across 589 forecourts in Northern Ireland, 6.4p below the UK average of 174.2p, according to Fuel Finder data as at 27 September 2026 analysed by British Fuel Prices, a sister site of Daily News Blog.
The South East was the dearest region, at 175.8p. The 8.0p gap between the two works out at £4.40 on a 55-litre tank.
Diesel followed the same pattern. It averaged 194.2p in Northern Ireland, against 199.3p across the UK.

Outside Northern Ireland the spread between regions is narrow, 2.6p from Yorkshire and the North East to the South East. The bigger savings can be local: in 51 of the 508 towns analysed, the gap between the cheapest and dearest forecourt was more than 25p a litre.
Where the figures come from
Every filling station in the UK has had to report its prices to the government’s Fuel Finder scheme since February 2026. Regions are the official ONS regions, taken from each forecourt’s postcode, and only forecourts that had reported within the previous 14 days are counted.
